Patna: The ongoing heatwave in Bihar has claimed 17 more lives across various districts on Sunday. People are collapsing on the streets, succumbing to the extreme heat. Among the deceased is a passenger who died on a train.
In the last 24 hours, five deaths have been reported in Aurangabad district alone, while Patna reported four deaths. Other districts like Kaimur, Begusarai, Sasaram, Nalanda, and Gaya reported one death each, with Gaya accounting for three fatalities. One person also died in Chhapra due to the heat.
72-Hour Deadly Heatwave Alert Issued
The heatwave in Bihar has been unprecedented this year, with temperatures soaring since April. A deadly heatwave alert has been issued for several districts for the next 72 hours. Aurangabad has recorded some of the highest temperatures, breaking all previous records. People are collapsing on the streets due to the heat, with five deaths reported in the district in the last 24 hours alone.
Five Deaths in Aurangabad
In Aurangabad’s Risiyap police station area, an 85-year-old man from Sinduria village, identified as Kailash Singh, died. His family suspects heatstroke as the cause. According to family members, he suddenly fell ill with high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. He was rushed to the district hospital when he started having breathing difficulties, where he passed away on Sunday.
Mason Dies While Working
In Barun police station area of Aurangabad, a mason identified as Vijendra Chandravanshi from Tetaria village collapsed while working on a house construction in Jankop village. He was rushed to the district hospital by his fellow workers but was declared dead on arrival.
Four Deaths in Patna
In Patna, at least four people have died due to the heatwave. In Didarganj police station area, a truck driver named Shyamlal from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, collapsed near a toll plaza. He was taken to NMCH hospital by the police, where he died during treatment. Police suspect heatstroke as the cause of death.
Passenger Dies on Train
A 56-year-old passenger, identified as Randhir Kumar Singh from Chitrawali village in Mahua, Vaishali, died on the Koshi Express. He collapsed near Patna Sahib station and was rushed to NMCH hospital by the railway police, where he died during treatment. Heatstroke is suspected to be the cause.
