In a concerning incident, a government school in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district is at the center of controversy as it received threats from family members of female students who were asked to remove their hijabs within classrooms. The principal of Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya reported the incident through a written complaint, prompting an official investigation.

The situation escalated when, on November 29, family members of a religious group stormed the school in protest. Angered by the directive for girls to remove their headscarves inside classrooms, they expressed vehement opposition, warning the principal that the school would not be allowed to operate unless their customs were respected. Shockingly, the threat extended to a warning of beheading for those disregarding their demands.

District Education Officer Om Prakash Singh confirmed the initiation of a probe at the departmental level. The Block Education Officer has been tasked with conducting an inquiry into the matter and submitting a detailed report. Singh emphasized that wearing any form of veil inside classrooms is not permissible, and if enforcing this rule raises security concerns, legal remedies will be explored.

The incident highlights the delicate balance schools face between enforcing rules and respecting cultural or religious practices. It also underscores the need for a nuanced approach to such matters, considering both educational standards and the diverse cultural fabric of the nation.
