In the past few months, Bihar has been buzzing with discussions about its crumbling, collapsing, and disappearing bridges. Numerous bridges have mysteriously vanished. However, one bridge has now emerged, touted as the most astonishing in the world. This bridge, constructed in the middle of a field, has no connecting roads on either side. It’s as if it was built with no beginning or end, just the middle portion completed and abandoned.
Costly Construction
Reportedly, over ₹3 crore has been spent on constructing this bridge.
Villagers were initially thrilled when the construction of the bridge began. However, it was built in such a way that it serves no purpose. The farmer on whose field the bridge was constructed received no compensation. The cost of this bridge exceeds ₹3 crore.
According to Amarendra Kumar Singh’s report for Aaj Tak, this incident occurred in Paramanandpur village, Rani Ganj block, Araria district, Bihar. A bridge was built in a farmer’s field about six months ago. The scheme under which this bridge was constructed remains unclear, as there is no signboard indicating the project details.
Villagers’ Discontent
Residents of the village expressed their disappointment, saying that they were happy about the bridge’s construction initially, but its incomplete state has left it useless. The farmer whose field houses the bridge has not been compensated. It is said that over ₹3 crore was spent on this incomplete project.
Official Response
Araria DM Inayat Khan acknowledged being aware of the issue. He mentioned that a report has been requested from the executive engineer. Additionally, SDO and CO, along with other concerned officials, have been instructed to visit the bridge site for inspection.
“We are investigating whether the bridge construction was carried out properly and whether all necessary precautions were taken. Once the report is received, appropriate action will be taken. Efforts are also being made to determine how the bridge and the associated road can be made functional. The entire matter is being taken seriously,” said Khan.
A resident of Paramanandpur village stated that the bridge was supposed to be larger, but the construction was not completed as planned. The villagers were initially pleased with the project, but since it was neither finished nor connected to any roads, it remains useless. The farmer on whose field it stands received no compensation.
