Purnia, Bihar: The Congress party has urged independent candidate Pappu Yadav to withdraw from the electoral race for the Purnia Lok Sabha seat. Failure to comply may lead to disciplinary action against him.
According to party sources, Pappu Yadav received a message from the Congress instructing him to reconsider his candidacy, warning of potential disciplinary measures if he persists. This development comes after Pappu Yadav, following the nomination of Bima Bharati as the Mahagathbandhan candidate, filed his nomination as an independent candidate, displaying defiance against the coalition.
However, Bihar Congress President Akhilesh Prasad Singh clarified that Pappu Yadav did not receive authorization for his candidacy. The party had already allocated the Purnia seat to another candidate, as per the seat-sharing formula decided by the alliance leadership.
In response to these developments, Pappu Yadav asserted his determination to contest the elections despite the Congress party’s stance. He expressed confidence in the support of the Congress family and vowed to continue his campaign for the welfare of the people of Purnia.
Earlier this year, Pappu Yadav had merged his party, Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik), with the Congress party, raising expectations of him contesting on a Congress ticket. However, the seat allocation formula favored another candidate, leading to the current standoff.
It remains to be seen whether Pappu Yadav will adhere to the Congress party’s directive or continue his independent bid for the Purnia Lok Sabha seat.
