The first monsoon rains brought relief and joy to farmers but caused significant waterlogging in Nawada city. With westerly winds and a pleasant drizzle on Saturday, the city’s residents welcomed the rain after a month of scorching heat and humidity.
The rain, which began around 4 p.m., brought down the temperature significantly, lifting the spirits of the people who had been eagerly awaiting it.
For farmers, the rain was a boon, as it promises to raise the groundwater level and ease the planting of paddy. Manoj Kumar from Orena and Basant Kumar from Sundara village expressed their relief, noting that the wet land would facilitate plowing and sowing of seeds.
However, the rain also exposed the inefficiencies of the city’s infrastructure. Many areas, including Station Road, Harishchandra Stadium Road, Ramnagar, Bhadoni, Rajendra Nagar, Budhil, and lower parts of the city, experienced severe waterlogging. Key locations such as Sadar Hospital, DDC residence, and the Collectorate were also affected, making it difficult for residents to navigate the streets.
The Municipal Council’s claims of a robust drainage system were proven false as the first rain itself led to widespread waterlogging. Despite numerous meetings to address this perennial issue, residents continue to face significant disruptions every monsoon season.
