Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Thursday as a historic day for technology and innovation, highlighting the approval received for the ‘India AI Mission’ from the government. The Cabinet’s green light for the mission, allocating a budget of INR 10,372 crores over five years, is poised to empower AI startups and expand the foundational infrastructure for computing in the country. This move is expected to mark a significant leap in India’s journey to become a global leader in AI innovation.
PM Modi shared his thoughts on the ‘X’ platform, stating, “A historic day for technology and innovation! The India AI Mission, approved by the Cabinet, will empower AI startups and expand the fundamental infrastructure for computing. It will be a significant leap in our journey towards becoming a global leader in AI innovation.” It is important to note that the central ministerial council has approved a spending of INR 10,372 crores for the India AI Mission.
Following the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal shared this information, stating that the funds would be utilized for the creation of extensive computing infrastructure. The government plans to allocate these funds to companies actively working on AI-based solutions. This financial support is expected to significantly assist AI-related startups and contribute to the development and proliferation of new AI tools in the country.
