New Delhi: In a bid to revolutionize the steel industry, the government has called upon steelmakers to intensify the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in their plants. The Union Steel Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, emphasized that leveraging AI could significantly enhance the value chain and energy management within the sector.
Addressing a Chintan Shivir event, Minister Scindia highlighted the imperative role of data-driven decision-making in the contemporary world. He stressed that the Indian steel industry should lead in adopting AI technology to streamline and optimize its operations.
“We, in the steel sector, need to understand that it is our responsibility to safeguard Mother Earth by embracing the concept of green steel and the latest technologies,” said Minister Scindia.
Minister of State (MoS) for Steel, Faggan Singh Kulaste, echoed the sentiment, pointing out that the incorporation of AI and automation could fortify the value chain system and enhance energy management in the steel sector.
Steel Secretary Nagendra Nath Sinha, addressing the EU’s CBAM mechanism, emphasized the need to comprehend its impact across the value chain operations for the sector. He acknowledged the evolving concept of CBAM and its potential implications.
The application of AI concepts is envisioned not only for operational enhancements but also for exploring, identifying, and developing new mines. The Geological Survey of India’s vast dataset becomes crucial for the effective implementation of AI in these areas.
This move aligns with the government’s broader vision to propel the steel industry into a technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable era.
