In a significant cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday, several crucial decisions were made, including the formation of a dedicated Sports Department in Bihar. The cabinet concluded its deliberations on a total of 19 agendas.
Focus on Sports Development:
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on January 6th, announced the establishment of a separate Sports Department in Bihar. Emphasizing the “Medal Lao, Naukri Pao” scheme, he highlighted the intention to distribute appointment letters to exceptional athletes soon, fostering better sports performance in the state.
Assurances for Athletes:
During the distribution of scholarship certificates to outstanding athletes, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assured that deserving players would receive scholarships, allowing the youth to concentrate fully on their sporting endeavors. The Sports Department is expected to oversee various sports-related activities, and athletes excelling in sports will be given priority in appointments to vacant positions in the police and other departments.
Separation of Sports from Arts, Culture, and Youth Department:
Following the Chief Minister’s announcement, the cabinet meeting on Monday approved the proposal to create a distinct Sports Department. Until now, all sports-related activities were managed under the Arts, Culture, and Youth Department, led by Minister Jitendra Kumar Rai. The formation of a separate Sports Department is anticipated to boost sports in the state.
Fulfillment of Two Promises:
In a commendable move, the government simultaneously fulfilled two promises made by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Just two days ago, the assurance to increase the remuneration of Anganwadi workers was given, and it has now been implemented. Additionally, a recent announcement to raise allowances for Panchayati Raj representatives was also approved by the cabinet.
Anganwadi Workers’ Pay Hike:
The cabinet meeting also witnessed decisions to increase the state allowance for Anganwadi workers. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had previously assured the reinstatement of 18,220 Anganwadi workers who were removed from their positions. Their honorarium has been significantly increased, bringing relief to these essential workers.
Rajya Bhatta Increase:
Further deliberations in Monday’s cabinet meeting resulted in a decision to raise the state allowance for Anganwadi workers. The monthly allowance for Anganwadi workers has been increased from ₹1450 to ₹2500, while Anganwadi helpers will now receive ₹1750, up from ₹725.
In summary, the Bihar cabinet’s decisions are poised to bring about transformative changes in sports, welfare schemes, and employment opportunities across the state.
