New Delhi, India and the United States are set to collaborate on the development of mega power transformers, as discussions between the two countries focus on modernizing the grid and transmission sectors. With the rapid increase in electricity consumption in India, the need for advanced power transformers has become crucial. However, India currently lacks the necessary technology to produce such transformers.
In recent discussions, U.S. President Joe Biden’s Senior Advisor for International Environmental Policy, John Podesta, met with India’s Power Minister Manohar Lal and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The U.S. has expressed its willingness to provide both the required technology and financial support for this initiative.
Over the past few months, India and the U.S. have engaged in multiple discussions related to environmental protection, which have led to collaborative efforts in various areas. One such area includes the joint development of energy-efficient air conditioners, as previously reported. The mega power transformers initiative is another significant aspect of this collaboration.
The talks also covered the modernization of India’s current grid infrastructure to meet future demands. Additionally, discussions have extended into battery storage solutions, further enhancing the partnership between the two nations in the energy sector.
