Approximately 50 schoolchildren in Dumra Block of Sitamarhi district, Bihar, reported experiencing stomach discomfort and vomiting after consuming a mid-day meal on September 12. The children were subsequently taken to Sadar Hospital. According to Dr. Sudha Jha, they all consumed the same meal and complained of finding a chameleon in it. However, the children are now stable and symptom-free, with medical professionals closely monitoring their condition.
This incident comes just a month after around 70 students were hospitalized following the consumption of a mid-day meal in a government school in southwest Delhi’s Dabri area. The Delhi government issued a show-cause notice to the meal provider, and the Delhi Police conducted an investigation, seizing remnants of the food and juice.
