In a significant move towards modernization, the Bihar Police is set to embrace digitalization through the Criminal Tracking and Networking System (CCTNS), commencing January 1, 2024. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jitendra Singh Gangwar announced that the manual registers, including station diaries, would transition to an online format across various police stations in the state.
Traditionally recorded manually, the station diaries, serving as a documentary record of daily police station activities, will undergo digitization with the implementation of CCTNS. This transformative step aims to enhance transparency, eliminate back-dated entries, and facilitate seamless access to station diaries by senior officers.
“The back-dated entries are done by the police officers to justify their (SHOs) illegal actions. But digitization will stop that,” noted a police official familiar with the development.
The station diaries, capturing a chronological order of daily occurrences, will play a pivotal role in tracking the movement of police personnel, updating every two hours. This initiative aligns with Bihar DGP Rajwinder Singh Bhatti’s commitment to paperless policing.
ADGP Gangwar emphasized that the digital shift would empower senior officers, including district superintendents of police, range deputy inspector generals of police, and inspector generals, to access station diaries efficiently. The online system ensures automatic recording of time and date with each entry, minimizing the scope for manipulation.
Patna SSP Rajiv Mishra confirmed the implementation of digital station diaries in Patna police stations, following PHQ directives. “Police personnel from January 1 have been directed to digital entry and update every two hours,” added SSP Mishra.
This move not only signifies Bihar’s commitment to technological advancement in law enforcement but also reinforces transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the police department.
