New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar emphasized the significance of adhering to the Model Code of Conduct, cautioning political parties against crossing the red line during campaigning. Addressing the media on Saturday, Kumar highlighted the declining level of political discourse in the country and issued a strong advisory to all political parties.
“We have collected data of all Model Code of Conduct violations and issued a final advisory. We are putting political parties on notice and have asked them to distribute copies of our guidelines to each star campaigner,” Kumar stated.
He further added, “Bringing these guidelines to the notice of each star campaigner will be the responsibility of political parties. We will presume knowledge of these guidelines. Previously, people questioned our inaction despite issuing numerous notices. That was a moral censor. Now, we will go beyond and take a calibrated approach.”
The advisory emphasizes fostering a political discourse that inspires rather than divides, with a particular focus on preventing hate speeches. Additionally, it prohibits making caste or religious appeals and criticising any aspect of private life.
