In a significant development, the Jaipur Metro is poised for expansion with the unveiling of two new extensions that will span the city’s south-western and north-eastern highways. This ambitious project is slated to enhance the city’s transportation landscape.
According to the Urban Development and Housing (UDH) department, metro services are slated to commence on the south-western highway of Jaipur by March 2025 and subsequently on the north-eastern highway by April 2027. These extensions are integral components of the Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS), a collaborative effort by the transportation and UDH Departments.
A senior UDH official expressed optimism, stating, “If everything works fine, Jaipur Metro would gracefully reach the 200-feet bypass on Ajmer Highway by March 2025. Concurrently, we are diligently working to complete the extension of the Badi Chaupar and Transport Nagar stretch by April 2027, and progress aligns with the established plan.”
The proposed extension includes a 1.35 km stretch from Mansarovar to the 200-feet bypass, estimated to cost Rs 204.81 crores. Notably, this elevated stretch is part of the grand vision. In the heart of the walled city, the Metro’s footprint will extend by another 2.85 kms to reach Transport Nagar near Agra Road. The subterranean phase will transition to an elevated stretch, culminating at Transport Nagar. The government has allocated a generous sum of Rs 980.08 crores for this transformative endeavor, which is set to significantly enhance the capabilities of the ITMS.
The ambitious project includes plans for two satellite bus stops on the 200-feet bypass and Agra Road, serving as alternatives to the current Sindhi Camp bus stand. This development will have a substantial impact, with buses from Ajmer, Bundi, and Kota terminating at the 200-feet bypass, while buses from northern regions like Delhi, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, and even Haryana will find their terminus at the new satellite bus stands.
This expansion marks a monumental step forward in Jaipur’s transportation infrastructure, promising improved connectivity and convenience for its residents and visitors alike.
