Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has given his seal of approval to a proposition aiming at the removal of a chairperson from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) due to alleged misconduct, as stated by officials on October 16, 2023. This proposal was meticulously presented by the esteemed Minister of Women and Child Development, Atishi.
In his endorsement, Chief Minister Kejriwal affirmed that the Delhi government stands resolute in safeguarding the well-being and progress of children and that any lapse in this commitment will not go unpunished. He underscored a policy of absolute intolerance for any negligence on the part of officials within the administration. It was emphasized that the Child Welfare Committee deals with exceptionally delicate cases concerning the protection and care of children. The pivotal role of the CWC chairperson in these matters was explicitly acknowledged.
Kejriwal articulated, “Hence, any laxity or irresponsible conduct by individuals in fulfilling the requisites of children could result in grave repercussions.” Atishi, echoing the sentiment, conveyed that numerous complaints had surfaced against the CWC-IX chairperson. These allegations encompassed delays in rendering decisions on critical cases related to children in dire need, inappropriate behavior towards staff and committee members, the misuse of authority, and the issuance of directives without the consent of committee members.
Consequently, an inquiry was set in motion, and the government has promptly elected to terminate the CWC-IX chairperson with immediate effect, maintaining an unwavering commitment to the unassailable welfare of children. The Delhi government remains steadfast in its dedication to ensuring that those in positions of authority discharge their duties with the utmost sincerity.
