Today Everyone is on their smartphones. Everyone is scrolling. Have you ever wondered how long you scroll in a day, a month and a year? Well, When I say how long, it’s not about time but it’s about length, or distance.
I’ll tell you an average value. But you can calculate it for yourself as well. It would be interesting to find out. So let’s go.
First of all we need to find out what’s the scroll speed?
Scroll speed is the speed of scrolling. Means how many pixels you scroll per second. You can find your scroll speed by searching “Scroll Speed Test” on Google.
For instance I’m taking 400 px/s as an average scroll speed. However, scroll speed for PCs is much higher. But let’s talk about smartphones only.
So, 400 pixels would be:
px × (1/dpi)) × 2.54 = cm
(px × (1/96)) × 2.54 = cm
(px/96) × 2.54 = cm
Now, when we enter 300 into our newly created formula, we get 300 px to cm as follows:
(px/96) × 2.54 = cm
(400/96) × 2.54 = 10.583333
400 px = 10.583333 cm
So we scroll almost 11 cm in a second, 660 cm in a minute and 39600 cm or 396 metres in an hour.
Now according to comparitech.com Average American spends 6.59 hours on a screen or we can say scrolling. Meanwhile average screen time in India is 6.23 hours.
For instance here, I’m taking 4 hours as scrolling time, because we don’t keep scrolling our smartphones all the time right!
So we scroll 396m*4hrs = 1584 m or 1.6km in a day
Keeping the same data would be 1.6km*30 = 48 km in a month
And 1.6km*365 = 584 km in a year.
That’s a huge distance, isn’t it. Walking the same distance that is 1.6km a day would give a lot of health benefits like a healthy heart, weight control, good mood and a lot more.
