New Delhi, The Meteorological Department provided welcome news on Thursday for those enduring extreme heat and heatwaves. The monsoon has arrived in India two days earlier than expected. Initially, the Meteorological Department predicted the monsoon would arrive a day earlier, on May 31. However, Cyclone Ramal’s influence brought the South-West Monsoon to the Kerala coast and parts of the North-East a day before this forecast.
The monsoon is expected to reach Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam soon. In West Bengal, it is anticipated by June 10, and it should arrive in Bihar and Jharkhand between June 15 and 17. The monsoon is also expected in Delhi shortly thereafter.
Meteorologists explained that the cyclone redirected the monsoon flow towards the Bay of Bengal, leading to an earlier onset in the Northeast. Cyclone Ramal made landfall on the West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts on Sunday. Typically, the monsoon reaches Kerala by June 1 and the northeastern states by June 5.
