The Union Home Ministry has assigned the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the June 9 terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district. This attack resulted in the deaths of nine people and injured 33 others. The NIA has registered a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The bus was returning to Katra from the Shiv Khori temple in Reasi when it fell into a gorge following incessant firing by terrorists. The NIA is probing the attack from all possible angles to uncover any larger conspiracy.
Jammu and Kashmir Police, as part of their investigation, detained 50 suspects last week. This extensive probe led to significant leads, aiding in the identification and capture of those potentially involved in the attack. A sketch of one of the three terrorists, based on eyewitness descriptions, has been released, and a reward of Rs 20 lakh has been announced for information about him.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in Delhi on Sunday to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized stringent action against terrorism supporters in the region and called for comprehensive security measures for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
