The possible opening of a location of California coffee chain Bottoms Up – where staff serve coffee in bikinis – is not sitting pretty with some residents in Hanford, Calif.
The chain opened in 2011 in Modesto and has been a magnet for controversy with its ‘Bikini Baristas.’
Locals expressed their concerns at a city council meeting in Hanford, where the Bottoms Up Expresso website has promoted a new location that will open soon.
Christina Vargas, a local resident who is against the idea, called the cafe a “perv magnet,” the U.K. Daily Mail reported.
“My family and I do not want a pervert magnet in our city, much less in our neighborhood,” she said. “It’s a danger to our neighborhood and damaging to the citizens, to the families of Hanford.”
Lynn Barlow owns a preschool about 60 feet from the would-be new location.
“Bottoms Up does not just sell coffee,” Barlow said. “Sexual influence along with the need for companionship will attract a certain number of customers that are troubled and dangerous to children.”
The license application had yet to be reviewed by the city council.
