In a discourse with ANI, the External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, lauds Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s transformed stance on the global stage, attributing this shift as the rationale behind India’s ascension to a prominent position in the realm of diplomacy.
Jaishankar, in his interview, articulated, “It is an era distinct from the past, an India fundamentally transformed, led by a Prime Minister and government of a different paradigm.” He expounded on India’s role in fostering unity among developing nations within the G20, a precedent unmatched by previous presidencies.
“No other G-20 leadership has embarked upon the mission of convening developing nations that have hitherto been marginalized. We beckon them to partake, to vocalize their concerns, and we commit to distilling and presenting these concerns within the G-20. This endeavor is without parallel,” elucidated the Minister of External Affairs.
Jaishankar emphasized the unique responsibility that India bears in the ever-evolving global landscape. “I perceive it as India’s duty, particularly in these turbulent times. How do we bring diverse nations together? How do we impress upon everyone that we share a collective responsibility? Therefore, let us unite, let us fulfill our global obligations,” he asserted.
He expressed optimism that the G20 nations would grasp the gravity of their responsibilities toward other countries. “India has cultivated a reputation as a constructive mediator, a unifier, adept at resolving disputes. I am sanguine that every G20 member converging in Delhi will acknowledge the weight of their role. The eyes of the other 180 nations are upon them, expecting them to set the course and, thus, they cannot falter,” Jaishankar conveyed.
Furthermore, he found encouragement in the heightened interest of India’s populace, particularly its youth, in foreign policy. “A salient benefit of the G20 is the surge in the Indian populace’s curiosity about foreign policy, particularly among our youth. This is imperative in an age of globalization,” he noted.
Addressing concerns about the American President overshadowing the G20 summit, Jaishankar exuded confidence, asserting, “We are India. We possess the acumen to navigate the intricacies of global diplomacy. Trust me, especially over the last decade, we have demonstrated our adeptness in handling international affairs,” concluded Mr. Jaishankar.
