PM Modi Bihar Visit:Wednesday marks a significant day for Rajgir, the historic capital of the Magadh Empire, as it gears up for the inauguration of the revived Nalanda University by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After thousands of years, this ancient seat of learning is being brought back to life. Modi will also plant a Bodhi tree during the event.
Nalanda Dressed Up for the Occasion
Rajgir and the new Nalanda University campus are adorned and ready to welcome PM Modi and the distinguished guests. Security measures have been tightened, with police and magistrates stationed throughout the university and heritage sites. Entry is restricted to those with passes or invitation cards.
Historical Significance
Founded in the 5th century by Kumaragupta I, Nalanda University was a premier center of learning until the 12th century. It was a hub of Buddhist philosophy and knowledge. The university has now been revived through the joint efforts of the central and Bihar state governments, nearly eight centuries after its destruction.
Role of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
The former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, played a pivotal role in the university’s revival. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar provided the land for the new campus, which features unique architectural designs reminiscent of the ancient university. Its library and yoga center are unmatched in India and Asia.
Carbon-Free, Net-Zero Campus
The new Nalanda University campus is designed as a carbon-free, net-zero campus, integrating environmental and architectural sustainability. It includes numerous ponds, akin to those surrounding the ancient university, maintaining its global reputation as a center of learning.
Preparations for PM’s Visit
Vice-Chancellor Professor Abhay Kumar Singh confirmed that all preparations for the inauguration are complete, with final touches being made. The university premises, event sites, and helipad are secured, with SPG, Home Ministry, and local police ensuring tight security.
Bodhi Tree Planting
After inaugurating the university, PM Modi will plant a Bodhi tree, a gesture reminiscent of the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, who planted a Bodhi tree during the foundation laying of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara in 1951. Seventy-three years later, this tradition continues with PM Modi.
Photo Session
Following the inauguration and tree planting, a photo session will be held with PM Modi, ambassadors from various countries, and other dignitaries.
Arrival of Guests
Guests for the inauguration have arrived in Rajgir, with accommodations arranged in hotels and the university guest house for ambassadors and foreign delegates.
Rehearsals for Security Convoy
A full rehearsal of the security convoy, from the helipad to the event site, was conducted on Tuesday, involving the DM, SP, SDO-DSP, and SPG officials, ensuring a secure visit for the Prime Minister.
