In a heartwarming initiative, North Eastern Railway and East Central Railway, in collaboration with nine non-governmental organizations (NGOs), are offering complimentary meals to passengers returning from Chhath Puja in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The campaign, initiated on November 24, has successfully provided over 2,500 meals, primarily to underprivileged laborers traveling in general coaches to major cities such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad for employment opportunities.
Recognizing the significant post-Chhath Puja influx, the railways decided to extend support beyond transportation. The collaboration with NGOs, self-help groups, and corporate organizations aims to contribute food packets specifically to passengers traveling in general coaches.
Railway staff from the commercial department, RPF (Railway Protection Force), and carriage and wagon department collaborated to facilitate the logistics for NGOs to deliver food promptly upon the arrival of express trains at various stations.
Several NGOs, including Roti Bank from Chhapra, Lion’s Club from Siwan, Nirbhaya Sena in Mau, Maa Bhawani Food, Ek Koshish Manavta Ke Naam, Scouts and Guide, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (Deoria), and Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Deoria), played a pivotal role in contributing to the campaign.
The campaign is set to continue for the next few days in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, ensuring ongoing support for passengers during their return journey post-Chhath Puja celebrations.
This collaborative effort showcases the compassionate side of railway services and NGOs, offering relief and sustenance to those traveling after participating in the auspicious Chhath Puja festivities.
