BHOPAL: Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has extended a plea to the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh, urging forgiveness for two students arrested by the Gwalior Police. The students allegedly commandeered a high court judge’s car to transport a heart-attack patient to the hospital.
In a heartfelt letter, Chouhan highlighted the incident where Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ranjit Singh Ji fell critically ill during a train journey. The students, in their altruistic attempt to save a life, took possession of the judge’s car for urgent medical attention. Despite their efforts, the Vice-Chancellor couldn’t be saved, leading to the police filing theft and robbery cases against the students.
Chouhan acknowledged the peculiar nature of the case, where a crime was committed with an altruistic motive. He emphasized that the students, Himanshu and Sukrit, acted in the interest of humanity without malice or criminal intent. While recognizing the criminal aspect, Chouhan urged the high court to take suo motu cognizance and withdraw the case, considering the future of the individuals involved.
Himanshu Shrotri, ABVP general secretary, and Subrata Kumar were arrested, but both had to be hospitalized due to a medical condition. The incident occurred when Professor Ranjit Singh Yadav suffered a cardiac arrest during a train journey, and students, after being told there was no ambulance, sought an alternative solution by using the judge’s car.
The former CM’s appeal for clemency underscores the unique circumstances surrounding the students’ actions and their intent to save a life.
