In a recent controversy, Bihar Education Minister Prof Chandrashekhar, associated with the RJD party, expressed support for party MLA Fateh Bahadur Singh’s comments against temples. Singh had stated that temples lead to ‘mental slavery,’ while schools illuminate the path of life.
The remarks, viewed critically by allies JD (U) and Congress, have raised concerns about their impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Prof Chandrashekhar, known for previous controversies, endorsed Singh’s views during an event commemorating the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule.
Chandrashekhar defended Singh, emphasizing the need to be cautious against what he termed ‘pseudo-Hindutva’ and ‘pseudo-Hinduvad.’ Singh, in his poster outside former CM Rabri Devi’s residence, had quoted Phule in support of his stance.
The controversy deepened as Chandrashekhar alleged the exploitation of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya for personal gains. He stated, “Lord Ram resides in everybody and everywhere, there is no need to go anywhere or any temple in search of him.”
Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav had earlier sparked controversy with his remarks questioning the choice between going to a temple or a hospital when injured.
JD (U) spokesperson KC Tyagi cautioned against making statements benefiting the BJP, suggesting that such comments could play into the hands of the ruling party. Former Congress legislative party leader Ajit Sharma criticized Chandrashekhar’s statement as ‘preposterous,’ asserting that individual progress or national development does not rely on divine blessings.
