Chennai: Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Group, extolled the commendable human resources and the influential bureaucracy of Tamil Nadu during his address at the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (TN GIM) 2024 on January 8.
Mahindra expressed his belief in Tamil Nadu’s capacity to foster an environment that brings out the best in businesses. He praised the state’s outstanding bureaucracy and government initiatives that have facilitated business growth.
“I’ve always stood with this… Tamil Nadu has an outstanding bureaucracy here; the government enabled businesses to grow,” stated Mahindra.
Reflecting on his personal experiences, Mahindra shared memories from his school days in Tamil Nadu, highlighting the state’s reverence for education. He emphasized how the rich human resources of Tamil Nadu compelled him to reconsider establishing a manufacturing facility in the state.
“Our team was concerned that there might be a famine of investments in the late ’90s in Tamil Nadu; it was the Ford team that told us that Tamil Nadu is the place to be. The quality of the human resources is great in TN. The energy and the education in people they saw made us change our minds,” added Mahindra.
In a significant move in July 2023, Mahindra and Mahindra announced the establishment of an electric vehicle battery testing facility at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chengalpattu and a crash test facility at Mahindra SUV Proving Track (MSPT) SIPCOT, Cheyyar Industrial Park, both located in Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2024, spanning two days and opening on January 7 at the Chennai Trade Centre, saw Chief Minister MK Stalin announcing investments worth Rs 6.64 lakh crore, poised to generate 26.9 lakh jobs in the state.
