To commemorate this accomplishment and address the rising demand for U.S. visas, the US Consulate General Mumbai organized a special Saturday for visitor visa interviews, accommodating 2,023 applicants. This initiative not only celebrates the exceptional year for visa processing but also underscores the consulate’s commitment to efficiency and reducing visa wait times.
Consul General Mike Hankey highlighted the enduring relationship between the United States and India, expressing dedication to promoting prosperity, inclusion, and security. In an official statement, he emphasized, “Today’s special Saturday represents our sustained commitment to utilize innovative solutions to further reduce visitor visa wait times in the year ahead.”
The statistics for 2023 showcase the significant impact of this commitment, with the U.S. Mission to India processing over 1.2 million non-immigrant visas, including the record-breaking 400,000 processed by the US Consulate General Mumbai.
This summer, the US Mission to India issued a record number of student visas, nearly 90,000, aligning with the broader trend of increasing numbers of Indian students pursuing education in the United States. The 2022-23 academic year witnessed a 35% surge in the number of Indian students studying in the US, reaching an all-time high of over 268,000.
