Siwan: Another bridge has collapsed in Bihar, this time in Siwan district. On Saturday, an old bridge over the Gandak Canal came crashing down. The incident was captured on video, and locals are outraged over the disruption in transportation.
Old Bridge Over Gandak Canal Collapses in Siwan
The bridge in Ramgarha Panchayat of Daraunda block fell apart completely. Locals captured the entire event on video, showing the bridge gradually crumbling before completely collapsing into the canal. It is reported that the bridge was quite old. Last year, the canal was reconstructed, but negligence in the process led to erosion around the bridge’s pillars due to the strong water flow.
Bridge Completely Collapses in Minutes
Local residents reported that erosion caused the bridge’s pillars to weaken over time. Witnesses said the pillars initially sank, and within minutes, the entire bridge fell into the canal. The collapse has halted all movement in the area. The noise of the bridge falling was so loud that nearby villagers were alarmed.
Longer Routes Now a Necessity for Locals
The collapse of this bridge has created significant transportation issues for many people. This bridge connected the Patehri Bazaar in Maharajganj block with Ramgarha Panchayat in Daraunda block, serving thousands of commuters daily. Now, locals are forced to take longer, winding routes to reach their destinations. There is growing anger among the residents, who are demanding an investigation into the bridge’s collapse. Recently, a similar incident occurred in Araria district, where an under-construction bridge also collapsed, making headlines.
