In a recent legal development that has captured public attention, the renowned musician Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, has initiated a lawsuit against her former partner, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla. This legal action revolves around the crucial matter of custody and parental rights concerning their three children, as reported by Page Six.
Grimes embarked on these legal proceedings by filing a “petition to establish parental relationship” in a California court on September 29, according to court records obtained by Page Six. This legal maneuver aims to legally define the parental status of unmarried individuals concerning their offspring.
While the case docket is accessible to the public, the specific details of the filings remain sealed. To date, there has been no response from Elon Musk, who is not only the co-founder of Tesla but also SpaceX.
Notably, Grimes has not yet sought child support or custody rights in her filing.
The relationship between Grimes, 35, and Elon Musk, 52, commenced in 2018 and underwent several ups and downs before their final separation in September 2021. During their time together, the Canadian artist gave birth to their first child, a son named X Æ A-Xii, in May 2020. The couple discreetly welcomed their daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, affectionately known as Y, via surrogate in December 2021.
In a startling revelation, it was disclosed in journalist Walter Isaacson’s biography, “Elon Musk,” that the couple had a third child named Techno Mechanicus, fondly referred to as Tau. The exact birth date of Tau remains undisclosed.
Grimes’ legal action comes following a public plea on Twitter directed at Elon Musk, urging him to permit her to see their youngest son. In response to a tweet by Isaacson sharing photos of Musk’s twins, Strider and Azure, from a previous relationship with Shivon Zilis, Grimes composed a now-deleted tweet, “Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer. I have never even been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart.”
Subsequent to this public appeal, Grimes revealed that she had engaged in a conversation with Zilis, expressing their mutual desire to de-escalate the situation and allow their children to grow up together.
As legal proceedings advance, the determination of custody and parental rights for Grimes and Elon Musk’s three children remains uncertain. Typically, in such cases, judges aim for joint custody, though the specifics can diverge significantly depending on individual circumstances.
Elon Musk, who is a father of 11 with three prior divorces, has not yet responded to Grimes’ recent legal action, leaving many questions unanswered regarding the future of their co-parenting relationship.
