Raigad, Maharashta, In a scathing critique, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar expressed concern over the establishment of the Surat Diamond Bourse, asserting that it could lead to massive job losses in Maharashtra. Pawar lamented the shift of the diamond trade from Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex to Surat, claiming that this move would negatively impact local employment.
The NCP leader accused those in power of neglecting the country’s interests and highlighted the significant employment opportunities lost due to the relocation of the diamond trade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse in Gujarat, touted as the world’s largest and most modern center for international diamond and jewelry businesses.
According to official sources, the bourse will facilitate global trading of both rough and polished diamonds, house a state-of-the-art ‘Customs Clearance House,’ a retail jewelry mall, international banking facilities, and secure vaults. PM Modi praised the project, stating that it signifies the dynamism and growth of Surat’s diamond industry, reflecting India’s entrepreneurial spirit.
