In November, domestic air traffic witnessed a 9% YoY increase, with 12.7 million passengers, though it fell below pre-pandemic levels for the first time in 2023. Akasa Air outperformed IndiGo in punctuality, achieving an on-time performance of 78.2% at major airports.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia urged airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa, to submit their aircraft plans for the next six months.
During January-November, domestic airlines carried 138.2 million passengers, marking a 25% rise from the previous year. However, November’s passenger traffic dipped below November 2019 levels.
IndiGo’s market share decreased to 61.8%, while Air India retained its second position with a 10.5% share. Vistara held steady in third place, and AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India) maintained a 6.6% share. SpiceJet’s market share was 6.2%, a decline from its peak in February 2022.
The passenger load factor in November for major airlines was 90.8% (SpiceJet), 89.4% (Vistara), 85.6% (IndiGo), 84.8% (Air India), and 85.3% (AirAsia India). Akasa Air’s load factor rose to 89.2% from 86.6% in October.
601 passenger complaints were recorded in November, with a rate of 0.47 complaints per 10,000 passengers. Airlines denied boarding to 1,231 passengers, while flight cancellations and delays affected 39,486 and 269,011 passengers, respectively.
