Patna:In response to petitions challenging increased reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Extremely Backward Classes, the Patna High Court has directed the Bihar government to submit a counter affidavit within four weeks. Advocate General PK Shahi represented the state government during the proceedings.
A Division Bench, led by Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran, consolidated the Public Interest Litigations and mandated a response within the stipulated four weeks. The petitioners argue that Bihar assembly’s recent legislation, elevating quotas in government jobs and educational institutions to 65%, along with an additional 10% for economically weaker sections, is deemed “unconstitutional.”
Advocate Vikas Kumar, assisting Advocate General Shahi, stated, “The court bunched together the Public Interest Litigations and sought a counter affidavit within four weeks.”
