Trinamool MP Saket Gokhale has written to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on January 5, urging urgent action against IndiGo for frequent flight delays attributed to the non-availability of cockpit crew.
Gokhale, the National Spokesperson of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), called on DGCA Director-General Vikram Dev Dutt to issue a showcause notice to the budget carrier within seven days, seeking clarification on the action taken against IndiGo.
Expressing concern over numerous passenger complaints on social media regarding last-minute delays, often due to crew unavailability, Gokhale emphasized the need for prompt attention to the matter.
In a letter shared on social media, he recounted his personal experience of almost missing a connecting flight due to an IndiGo delay caused by a pilot’s late arrival.
IndiGo responded to Gokhale’s post, citing “operational reasons” for the delay in Flight 6E 2001 from Delhi to Ahmedabad. The airline expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to passengers.
This development follows IndiGo’s recent announcement of withdrawing fuel charges levied on domestic and international flights since October 6, potentially reducing airfare by up to Rs 1,000 on specific routes.
