In a momentous stride towards enhancing India’s global prominence in the burgeoning conference tourism industry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated “Yashobhoomi,” the nation’s largest convention center, in Dwarka, Delhi, on Sunday. This ambitious endeavor aligns with India’s strategic intent to tap into the estimated Rs 25 lakh crore conference tourism industry.
Yashobhoomi, coupled with Bharat Mandapam, which recently hosted the prestigious G20 leaders’ summit, positions India to significantly expand its footprint in the global conference tourism domain—a realm where it currently commands a mere 1 percent share. Prime Minister Modi extended a cordial invitation to stakeholders worldwide, urging them to harness these world-class facilities for their business pursuits, cultural endeavors, and even film festivals.
Modi underlined the synergy between India’s rich cultural heritage and cutting-edge facilities within Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi, characterizing them as potent symbols of India’s narrative to the global audience. He emphasized that the growth of conference tourism hinges upon the availability of requisite infrastructure for events, meetings, and exhibitions.
“Delineating Yashobhoomi as a hub for international conferences, meetings, and exhibitions, Modi beckoned the television and film industries, along with international event management companies, to consider hosting award ceremonies, film festivals, film showcases, exhibitions, trade fairs, and conferences at this splendid venue.
Prime Minister Modi underscored the vast potential inherent in the conference tourism sector for India. He pointed out that India’s current share in this sector barely reaches 1 percent, with many major corporations opting for foreign locales to conduct their events. However, India is firmly poised to emerge as a formidable contender in the conference tourism arena, with the Yashobhoomi ecosystem primed to establish itself as a coveted destination for conferences and exhibitions.
Yashobhoomi, boasting a colossal project area exceeding 8.9 lakh square meters and a built-up area exceeding 1.8 lakh square meters, aspires to rank among the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities once fully operational.
Prime Minister Modi concluded his remarks by affirming India’s multi-dimensional progress, citing the successful hosting of the G20 leaders’ summit at Bharat Mandapam as a testament to the nation’s capabilities. He expressed unwavering confidence that Yashobhoomi would perpetuate this tradition, only with greater magnificence. Modi proclaimed that any event convened at Yashobhoomi would inevitably attain resounding success and international acclaim, effectively rendering the convention center a platform for showcasing the “India of the future.” He further emphasized that Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi would symbolize India’s unmatched hospitality, excellence, and grandeur.
In a resounding proclamation, the Prime Minister affirmed, “Mark my words, India is not going to stop now.” With the inauguration of Yashobhoomi, India takes a giant leap toward establishing itself as a prominent player in the global conference tourism industry, firmly reaffirming its unwavering commitment to progress and excellence.
