Hunter Biden sues IRS for breaching his privacy rights over tax affairs

In a legal maneuver that adds further intrigue to the ongoing saga surrounding the son of President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden has filed a lawsuit against the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for what he claims to be a breach of his privacy rights during their investigation into his tax affairs.

This lawsuit comes at a time when Hunter Biden’s business dealings are under intense scrutiny, forming the epicenter of the Republican-led efforts to impeach his father, President Joe Biden. These allegations of corruption against the President, however, remain unsubstantiated.

Hunter Biden currently faces criminal charges related to both his tax affairs and the acquisition of a firearm. In his legal action against the IRS, filed within the hallowed halls of the US District Court in Washington DC, he contends that “whistleblower” agents involved in the investigation have divulged sensitive information that should have remained strictly confidential.

According to the lawsuit, “IRS agents have targeted and sought to embarrass Mr. Biden via public statements to the media in which they and their representatives disclosed confidential information about a private citizen’s tax matters.” Furthermore, it characterizes these actions as an “assault on Mr. Biden’s rights involv[ing] the public disclosure of his confidential tax information during more than 20 nationally televised and non-congressionally sanctioned interviews and numerous public statements.”

The lawsuit firmly asserts that no government agency or agent should have the liberty to infringe upon an individual’s rights solely based on their identity, in this case, the son of the President of the United States.

Hunter Biden’s legal action seeks compensation in the form of $1,000 for each unauthorized disclosure of his tax return information, in addition to covering costs and attorney fees.

In a recent development, Hunter Biden was indicted on charges related to a firearms purchase, initially tied to tax charges that were part of a plea deal which unraveled earlier this year. Now, he reportedly faces additional tax charges from the special counsel overseeing his case, David Weiss, who serves as the US Attorney for Delaware.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, a letter from Abbe Lowell, a lawyer representing Hunter Biden, to Jason Smith, the Republican chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, has suggested that accountants believe Biden may be owed a tax refund for “overpayments of tax.”

While the Republican-driven impeachment campaign against President Joe Biden is likely to falter due to Democratic control of the Senate and a dearth of compelling evidence, the White House remains steadfast in its defense.

The Hunter Biden affair continues to be a focal point in the public’s eye, as Republican forces endeavor to link the President with his son, epitomized by a 27-year-old former Trump White House staffer, Garrett Ziegler, who is now fervently committed to discrediting Hunter Biden. This concerted effort to scrutinize Hunter Biden’s activities is seen as a significant political vulnerability for the President, culminating in the House GOP’s recent decision to launch an impeachment inquiry.

In summary, Hunter Biden’s legal battle against the IRS adds another layer of complexity to an already convoluted narrative that is poised to persist as a dominant theme in American politics.
