In a significant milestone, 14 faculty members from the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P), along with five from the National Institute of Technology-Patna (NIT-P), have earned a distinguished place among the world’s top 2% scientists in 2023, as recognized by Stanford University in the United States.

Stanford University annually releases data recognizing the top 2% of researchers worldwide, based on their research publications. This accolade is published by the esteemed publishing firm Elsevier.

This prestigious global ranking, considered the gold standard, relies on bibliometric data sourced from the Scopus database, encompassing over 180,000 researchers worldwide, including more than 8 million active scientists. It evaluates achievements across 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields.

Among the notable IIT-P faculty members included in this esteemed list, besides the director, T N Singh, are experts from diverse fields, spanning engineering, science, and humanities. The distinguished faculty members recognized from IIT-Patna include Naveen Kumar Nishchal (physics), Manabendra Pathak (mechanical engineering), Ranjan Kumar Behera, and Maheshkumar H Kolekar (electrical engineering), Sriparna Saha and Asif Iqbal (computer science and engineering), Amarnath Hegde (civil and environmental engineering), Anirban Bhattacharya (mechanical engineering), Richa Chaudhary (humanities and social sciences), Pratibhamoy Das (mathematics), Surajit Kumar Paul (mechanical engineering), Udit Satija, and Jagannath Malik (electrical engineering).

Notably, this year marks the first time that five faculty members from NIT-Patna have achieved the distinction of being among the world’s top two percent scientists. These accomplished individuals hail from diverse fields, including Pijush Samui (civil engineering), Ashish Kumar Bhandari (electronics and communication engineering), Amit Kumar Singh (computer science engineering), Suyel Namasudra (computer science engineering), and Gaurav Varshney (electronics and computer engineering).

This remarkable achievement reflects not only the exceptional caliber of these educators but also the invaluable contributions they have made to their respective fields. Their recognition on the global stage underscores Bihar’s burgeoning reputation as a hub for academic excellence and research prowess.
