PATNA, In a noteworthy development, a young female police sub-inspector currently undergoing training in Bihar’s Munger district has come under scrutiny for her prolific social media presence. The department has taken serious note of her activities, which led her to swiftly deactivate her Instagram account boasting an impressive 638,000 followers.
The police sources revealed that Pooja Verma, stationed at the Bariyarpur police station in Munger district, had been actively sharing content on social media platforms. Her content often featured her donning a police uniform and striking various poses, which garnered substantial views, as evident from her substantial follower count.
Concerns arose within the police department about the impact of her social media endeavors on her career, leading the young officer to take down her Instagram account.
“We became aware of her extensive social media involvement but have chosen to caution her to redirect her focus towards her duties,” remarked Munger SP Jagunatharaddi Jalaraddi. He further added that counseling had been provided, and he had requested a detailed report from the concerned police inspector.
The police department’s intervention was prompted by the sub-inspector’s frequent Instagram postings, which gained a considerable number of views, boosting her confidence. Her account, now removed, featured a total of 167 photographs, videos, and reels.
The move to remove her Instagram presence appears to be a preemptive measure to avoid potential disciplinary actions. “Sorry, this page is not available,” now greets visitors who attempt to access her Instagram account.
Earlier this year, in June, the state police headquarters issued an order forbidding police officers and staff from indulging in social media during duty hours, warning of potential disciplinary consequences.
The unnecessary use of cell phones and social media, the order emphasized, could divert one’s attention and ultimately affect efficiency, tarnishing the image of the police department. This directive aimed to ensure that police officers maintain their focus on their professional responsibilities.
In a related incident from March, a man named Monu Singh from Khagaria district faced legal repercussions after posting a video featuring the Insas rifle of his police officer wife, Nibha Singh, on social media. Their love marriage had taken an unexpected turn, landing them in jail.
This case underscores the growing significance of maintaining a professional and disciplined approach, especially when it comes to public servants, both within and outside the police force.
