Turbat, Balochistan — In the early hours of Saturday, a heinous act of violence unfolded as unidentified gunmen fatally shot six laborers in Turbat’s Kech district, according to local authorities. The victims, who were residing in the premises of a local contractor, had been engaged in construction work when they fell victim to the merciless attack.

District Police Officer (DPO) Imam Bux disclosed that a group of armed assailants forcibly entered a residence in Turbat’s Satellite Town area, and without discrimination, opened fire on the laborers. Promptly alerted, law enforcement agencies swiftly arrived at the scene, responding to the distressing incident.

DPO Bux affirmed that a case is to be formally registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station. An ongoing investigation seeks to shed light on the motive behind this brutal attack that has left the community in shock.

The wounded individuals, identified as Rizwan, Shehbaz, Wasim, Shafiq Ahmed, Muhammad Naeem, Ghulam Mustafa, and Touheed, faced a harrowing ordeal. Regrettably, Shehbaz and Wasim were confirmed to be siblings, underscoring the profound impact of this tragedy on families.

Interim Chief Minister of Balochistan, Ali Mardan Khan Domki, conveyed his heartfelt condolences and lamented the loss of life. He called for an official report from relevant authorities and vehemently condemned the reprehensible act of targeting innocent laborers. The Chief Minister urged investigators to conduct a thorough examination of the incident, employing all available resources to bring those responsible to justice.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Governor Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar expressed his deep sorrow over the lives lost in this tragic incident. He appealed to law enforcement agencies for swift action in apprehending the individuals behind the attack, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.

This disturbing incident evokes painful memories of a 2015 tragedy in Turbat, when assailants mercilessly killed 20 construction workers and injured three others in a pre-dawn attack on a laborers’ camp near Turbat. The recent incident, reminiscent of that dreadful episode, unfolded as the victims lay asleep at their camp, marking a dark day in the region’s history.
