During the 3rd convocation ceremony at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), President Droupadi Murmu acknowledged the remarkable achievements of Bihar’s industrious and talented citizens on a global stage. She urged the state’s youth to now focus on setting similar global standards at the local level. This event marked the first convocation at the state’s prestigious A++ accredited institution, where President Murmu also felicitated the top-performing students across various disciplines. Notably, of the 106 medals awarded, 66 were granted to female scholars.

President Murmu emphasized the pivotal role played by young women in achieving excellence within educational institutions and the broader societal context. She celebrated the university’s progressive approach by naming its hostels after eminent scholars like Gargi and Maitreyi, a move that symbolizes the construction of a better society and national progress.

Reflecting on Bihar’s rich legacy, President Murmu recognized the region’s historical significance in nurturing exceptional individuals in various domains. She appreciated the university’s decision to name its science and social science blocks after Aryabhatt and Chanakya, respectively. However, she underscored that the true worth of these names would be realized when both teachers and students collectively strive for world-class education and cutting-edge research.

President Murmu commended the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 for its emphasis on preserving and revitalizing India’s profound knowledge systems in a contemporary context. She noted that talented and diligent Indian youth are actively contributing their skills to various countries worldwide, addressing global talent shortages.

The President encouraged CUSB students to actively engage with the challenges of our times. She asserted that the youth, as the bearers of our rich cultural heritage, should optimize their potential for the nation’s benefit, emphasizing the importance of social welfare, benevolence, and self-development.

Turning to the critical issue of climate change, President Murmu endorsed sustainable lifestyles that align with the natural world. She called for the efficient utilization of natural resources and rigorous efforts toward environmental protection, echoing the teachings of historical figures such as Buddha, Mahavir, and Gandhi, who advocated peace, non-violence, and compassion for both living beings and the environment.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar stressed the need for prompt examinations and results within state universities, acknowledging the responsibility shared by institutions and the importance of timely sessions. He emphasized that degrees should not merely serve as documents for job hunting but as vehicles for contributing to the nation and society.

In his welcome address, CUSB Vice-Chancellor KN Singh highlighted the institution’s journey, commencing in 2009 and relocating to its own campus just five years ago. He mentioned CUSB’s relentless pursuit of excellence, the achievement of the highest A++ rating from NAAC, the adoption of the New Education Policy (NEP), and the introduction of courses in artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, aligned with the demands of the 21st century.

This momentous occasion saw the awarding of degrees to 1142 students at the Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and M.Phil./Ph.D. levels, with the highest performers receiving prestigious Chancellor Gold Medals, School Gold Medals, and Department Gold Medals.
