Pakistan’s head coach, Mickey Arthur, has cautioned against embarking on a “witch hunt” aimed at captain Babar Azam and the team management in the wake of Pakistan’s unfortunate streak of four consecutive defeats in the One-Day International Cricket World Cup. These defeats have seriously dented Pakistan’s prospects of reaching the semi-finals. Their latest loss was a heart-stopping one-wicket defeat against a formidable South African team in Chennai, India.

Prior to this, Pakistan had suffered losses to traditional rivals India and Australia, followed by a surprising eight-wicket defeat at the hands of a lower-ranked Afghanistan team. Currently occupying the sixth position, Pakistan now faces the ominous possibility of an early exit from the prestigious tournament, despite initially being considered one of the favorites.

However, Arthur has thrown his support behind Azam and the management team. He emphasized the unfairness of initiating a witch hunt against them, highlighting the unwavering efforts put in by both the players and the coaching staff. According to Arthur, the commitment and dedication displayed by the team and staff are truly remarkable.

Pakistan managed to post a total of 270 runs against South Africa, and despite a valiant effort from their bowlers, they were narrowly defeated by just one wicket. Arthur acknowledged the stark contrast in the team’s performance compared to their loss against Afghanistan. He described the Afghanistan match as an “average” showing in all departments, while the latest defeat showcased an improved batting performance and an impressive display with the ball. Arthur expressed his pride in the players for their unwavering fight throughout the match.
