In a recent development, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has recommended an additional 89 candidates for various civil services. These candidates, previously on a reserve list, have now received this recommendation based on their performance in the highly competitive civil services examination conducted in 2022, as confirmed by an official statement issued by the Commission.
The results of the Civil Services Examination for the year 2022 were declared earlier in May. A total of 933 candidates were initially recommended for various esteemed civil services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
The UPSC has disclosed its ongoing practice of maintaining a consolidated reserve list, arranged in order of merit, extending beyond the last candidate recommended for each category.
“As per the request of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the Commission has now endorsed 89 candidates, comprising 65 from the General category, 7 from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 15 from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), and 1 each from the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories. These recommendations aim to fill the remaining vacant positions based on the Civil Services Examination of 2022,” the official statement elaborated.
The candidates who have received these recommendations will receive direct communication from the Department of Personnel & Training, as outlined by the Commission.

The Civil Services Examination, an annual event conducted by the UPSC, comprises three stages: preliminary, main, and interview, culminating in the selection of distinguished officers for coveted roles in the IAS, IFS, and IPS, among others.
