BENGALURU: Renowned Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav anticipates a formidable challenge for bowlers at Mumbai’s renowned Wankhede Stadium, renowned for its batsman-friendly conditions, as the Indian cricket team prepares to clash with New Zealand in the highly anticipated World Cup semi-final this Wednesday.

In recent encounters at this prestigious venue, South Africa exhibited their prowess by amassing totals of 399-7 against England and 382-5 against Bangladesh. India, too, engaged in a run-fest, achieving a formidable 357-8 against Sri Lanka. The stadium witnessed a spectacular display when Glenn Maxwell orchestrated an extraordinary double century, propelling Australia to a successful chase of 291 against Afghanistan last week.

Kuldeep, addressing reporters after India’s triumph over the Netherlands, shared insights into the challenges posed by Wankhede Stadium. “It’s a testing venue for bowlers, characterized by true bounce and a propensity for batsmen to assert dominance. Unlike Twenty20 encounters, bowlers have ample opportunities to recalibrate and make a comeback into the game,” emphasized Kuldeep. “However, early wickets are pivotal to gaining a strategic advantage over the opposition.”

Reflecting on New Zealand’s ambitions to replicate their 2019 success of ousting India in the semi-finals, Kuldeep expressed confidence in India’s preparations. “Our extensive participation in bilateral series has honed our skills, enabling us to consistently deliver exceptional cricket throughout the tournament. We are poised to maintain this momentum in the upcoming match,” he affirmed.

During India’s impressive streak of nine consecutive victories in the tournament, Kuldeep has emerged as a standout performer, clinching a notable 14 wickets. When asked about his approach, he remarked, “I diligently focus on refining my rhythm and leveraging my strengths. Understanding the batsmen’s strategies against me is crucial. My objective is to consistently land the ball in the optimal length area.”
