In a scathing address during a poll rally in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, Senior Congress MP Rahul Gandhi leveled accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, asserting that they orchestrated the collapse of the Congress-led government in 2020 by “purchasing” the party’s MLAs. Gandhi referenced the revolt of 22 MLAs that precipitated the downfall of the Kamal Nath government, alleging that the BJP had subverted the democratic will of the people.
In the electoral gathering, Gandhi lamented that the BJP leaders, through financial inducements and political maneuvering, effectively thwarted the popular mandate that brought the Congress to power in 2018. He emphasized that the voice of the masses was “crushed” as the elected government of Madhya Pradesh was allegedly “stolen” by the BJP.
The Congress leader vowed to confront and displace the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, drawing parallels with previous electoral victories in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. Gandhi claimed that the Congress, as advocates of non-violence, drove out the BJP with love, establishing a narrative of ushering in a government that resonates with the sentiments of the people.
Addressing the crowd, Gandhi projected confidence in the Congress’s prospects, predicting a victory with 145-150 seats in Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan countered the allegations, characterizing the Congress’s government as one of “entertainment” and asserting the BJP’s commitment to development.
Chouhan dismissed the visits of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as mere entertainment, accusing the siblings of spreading falsehoods. The Chief Minister asserted that the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, constitutes a “double-engine government” focused on development, while branding the Congress as a government of entertainment.
As the political rhetoric intensifies, the battleground in Madhya Pradesh becomes a crucible for competing narratives, with each party vying for public trust and allegiance in the upcoming elections.
