In the realm of the ongoing Cricket World Cup, the spectacle of on-field action is now accompanied by an intriguing conspiracy theory proposed by former Pakistani cricketer Sikander Bakht. Following India’s decisive victory over New Zealand in the semi-final, Bakht suggests a strategic move by India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, during the coin toss.

In a statement to Geo News, Bakht theorized, “Can I give you a conspiracy theory? At the time of the toss, Rohit Sharma throws the coin far from the range of any opposition captain. Thus, the opposition captain cannot go and cross-check about the call.”

Bakht further substantiated his claim by sharing a video on his social media platform, questioning the distinctive style with which Rohit Sharma conducts the coin toss in comparison to other captains in the tournament. His caption read, “Very strange the way Rohit Sharma throws the coin at the toss, far away, don’t let other Captains see, compare to other Captains in the WC, any reason??”

However, this theory found little resonance with another former Pakistani player, Wasim Akram, who dismissed the notion during a segment on The Pavilion show on A Sports. Akram retorted, “Who decides where the coin should land? It is just for sponsorship! I feel embarrassed.”

This isn’t the first instance of accusations against the Indian team during the tournament. Previously, Hasan Raza insinuated that India received different and suspicious balls during matches, suggesting an unfair advantage.

As the Cricket World Cup unfolds, not only are the players showcasing their skills on the field, but off-field narratives and conspiracy theories are also adding an unexpected layer of drama to the cricketing spectacle.
