In a recent address at the Spain-India Forum, Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sanjay Verma highlighted India’s increasing role in the international workforce. Verma stated, “Within a decade, every second or third youth out of ten in the international workforce would be an Indian.”
Discussing migration mobility agreements, Verma urged Spain to consider similar agreements, citing successful agreements with Portugal, the UK, Germany, Italy, and Austria. He emphasized the importance of hard decisions and praised the proposed observatory as a potential model for other nations.
Verma also noted India’s substantial economic contribution, adding almost USD 500 billion every 18 to 20 months. Highlighting the demographic profile, he stated, “Our youthful population is aspirational, better equipped, better skilled, interculturally comfortable, and linguistically gifted.”
Underlining the significance of the Spanish language, Verma expressed support, stating, “The Spanish language becomes important. You have our support in landing a larger footprint in India. Because the Indian youth will move. It is a matter of time.”
The Spain India Forum, focused on bilateral cooperation, aims to explore opportunities in key fields, including participation in the Indo-Pacific, defense industries, university collaboration, educational exchanges, and the global dimension of the Spanish language.
