In a significant move, India has reinstated e-visa services for Canadian nationals, marking a positive development in bilateral relations. The resumption of these services comes after a temporary suspension in September, citing operational reasons amid heightened tensions between the two countries and diplomatic expulsions.

The disagreement escalated following a contentious discussion on the Khalistan issue during the recent G20 meeting in Delhi between the Indian and Canadian Prime Ministers. Canada, actively pursuing credible allegations linking government agents to the murder of a Khalistani extremist in British Columbia, further strained relations.

India firmly rejected these claims as “absurd” and “motivated,” emphasizing its commitment to resolving differences through diplomatic channels. The decision to resume e-visa services signals a diplomatic effort to ease tensions and promote constructive engagement between the two nations.

This move holds significance, considering the challenges faced in diplomatic relations, and is expected to contribute to fostering a more cooperative environment between India and Canada.
