In a significant achievement, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has reached a total registration count of 1.23 crore in the current year (January-October 2023), solidifying its position as one of the largest exam-conducting bodies globally. This places NTA second only to China’s Gaokao, which recorded 1.29 crore registrations in 2023.

While Gaokao achieved 85% attendance in 2022, NTA has recorded a cumulative 77.4% attendance for its 34 delivered exams in 2023. Notably, NTA manages exams for a diverse range of 380 subjects, unlike Gaokao, which conducts tests for nine subjects.

NTA’s Director General, Subodh Kumar Singh, emphasized the agency’s commitment to technology-driven operations, maintaining schedules, and ensuring exam security. The strategic use of technology, standardized exam patterns, and AI tools to monitor integrity have been key factors in NTA’s successful scaling of operations.

Furthermore, NTA is poised for further diversification as it takes on the responsibility of conducting exams similar to the Civil Services Examination. Singh stated that NTA would conduct exams for the posts of examiner of patents and designs for the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in January 2024.
