In a substantial move towards fostering green energy initiatives in Uttar Pradesh, over 5,900 acres of land have been allocated for 19 renewable energy projects, collectively valued at ₹18,831 crore. The allocation precedes the groundbreaking ceremony, signaling a significant stride in the state’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Among the sanctioned projects are four expansive solar parks poised to generate 3,200 MW of green power, five solar plants, and ten compressed biogas (CBG) plants. Private developers and public companies alike are slated to undertake these projects.

Anupam Shukla, Director of the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), expressed satisfaction, stating, “So far, we have allotted 5,718.029 acres of land to solar projects and 186.28 acres to bioenergy projects, totaling 5,904.309 acres. This is a significant achievement considering the challenge of finding suitable land for projects.”

Importantly, all the allotted land for the 19 renewable energy projects is government-owned, emphasizing a collaborative approach to advancing sustainable initiatives.

During the Global Investors’ Summit (GIS) held earlier this year, approximately 35 departments inked around 20,000 MoUs, reflecting a robust commitment to investments exceeding ₹35 lakh crore across various sectors in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, renewable energy projects garnered substantial attention, with around ₹7.65 lakh crore worth of MoUs signed, the highest among all sectors.

The forthcoming groundbreaking ceremony, expected to take place in December-January, is anticipated to launch projects totaling ₹15 lakh crore. As per government guidelines, only projects with identified land are being shortlisted for this ceremony.

Among the notable projects earmarked for the ceremony are a ₹3,000 crore 600 MW solar park in Jhansi, a ₹3,000 crore solar park in Lalitpur, and a ₹4,000 crore 800 MW solar park in Chitrakoot. Additionally, CBG plants by IOCL, HPCL, Reliance Ltd, and Petronet LNJ Ltd are part of this ambitious green energy push.

The allocation of land to these projects marks a substantial stride towards fostering a greener and more sustainable future for Uttar Pradesh.
