Bokaro, In a recent communication to Dhanbad MP P N Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed that the Bokaro airport is scheduled to be operational by February 2024. The airport, selected under the Centre’s Udan scheme, will facilitate commercial flights connecting Kolkata and Patna.

Scindia’s letter to Singh stated, “The construction work related to the operation of ATR-72 type aircraft has been completed. The process of providing a license to the airport for flight operations is underway and is likely to be completed by February 2024. Once approved, the Selected Airline Operator (SAO) can start operating flights connecting Bokaro to Kolkata and Patna.”

Launched in 2016, the Udan scheme aims to enhance connectivity to remote areas at affordable airfares. The Bokaro airport project aligns with the initiative to improve accessibility.

MP P N Singh raised concerns about the slow progress of construction, emphasizing the need for the state government to address issues related to security, health, and firefighting. He urged the government for a swift completion of the project to meet the expectations of the region’s residents.

The assurance of Bokaro airport’s operational status by February 2024 brings hope for improved air connectivity in the region, addressing concerns about delays and emphasizing the significance of the Udan scheme.
