In preparation for the upcoming Winter session of Parliament, the Centre has summoned an all-party meeting scheduled for December 2 at 11 am. The announcement, made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, precedes the anticipated start of the session on December 4, running until December 22.
The session, as declared by Minister Pralhad Joshi on November 9, will comprise 15 sittings over 19 days. Notably, the all-party meeting has been advanced by a day, possibly due to the vote counting in five states on December 3.
During the session, the Lok Sabha is set to address the Ethics Committee’s report on “cash-for-query” allegations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra. The House must adopt the report before the recommended expulsion by the panel takes effect.
Additionally, three crucial bills aiming to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Evidence Act are expected to be discussed. Another significant bill pertains to the appointment of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners.
Introduced in the Monsoon session, the government had not pushed for its passage in the special session amid opposition protests and concerns raised by former chief election commissioners.
