After a historic stint with Gujarat Titans in the IPL, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set for a blockbuster return to Mumbai Indians, according to multiple reports. The move comes after Pandya’s successful leadership of the Gujarat Titans, leading them to a memorable title triumph and a runner-up finish in IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians are reportedly ready to pay ₹15 crore in an all-cash deal to acquire the services of the dynamic all-rounder. The unexpected move has sparked discussions about the future of the Mumbai Indians’ leadership, with former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth sharing his insights.

Srikkanth believes that Pandya’s return will be a significant boost for Mumbai Indians, recalling the memorable moments when Pandya played for the team from 2015. Speaking on YouTube, he expressed surprise at Gujarat Titans releasing their captain but speculated that they might view it as a strategic business move.

Addressing the potential captaincy shift, Srikkanth opined that Mumbai Indians would make Hardik Pandya the captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma. However, he emphasized that Rohit Sharma would remain a vital part of the team, ensuring a smooth transition.

The former India batter drew parallels with the smooth transition between Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma and suggested that the same mentor-disciple relationship could unfold between Rohit and Pandya. Srikkanth anticipates a seamless handover, ensuring stability within the team.

In preparation for Pandya’s return, Mumbai Indians are expected to release Jofra Archer and Cameron Green from their squad. All eyes are now on the IPL 2024, eagerly awaiting the official announcement of this high-profile transfer.
