On the third day of the temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Israel Defense Force (IDF) has issued a stern warning to Palestinians who previously evacuated northern Gaza. Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic spokesman, reiterated the conditions of the ceasefire, instructing Palestinians to continue moving south of Wadi Gaza.
The warning explicitly stated that returning to the Strip’s northern areas, approaching the sea, or coming within one kilometer of the Israel-Gaza border is strictly prohibited. This caution comes as one of the conditions stipulated in the temporary ceasefire agreement, aimed at maintaining the stability achieved during the truce.
As part of the ceasefire deal, Hamas is committed to releasing 12 to 13 hostages daily. This initiative is seen as a confidence-building measure and a crucial component of the broader efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
To facilitate the peace process, the IDF has agreed to refrain from using surveillance drones in Gaza for six hours each day of the ceasefire. Moreover, the ceasefire permits the entry of fuel into Gaza, addressing urgent humanitarian needs. The IDF’s warnings serve as a reminder of the delicate nature of the ceasefire and the importance of adherence to its terms.
While there haven’t been reports of large-scale attempts by Palestinians to return during the ceasefire, it’s observed that some individuals have defied warnings to inspect damage or attend to matters within the evacuated areas.
The temporary truce, spanning four days, is a pivotal step towards creating an environment conducive to further negotiations and, hopefully, a lasting resolution to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
